Bud Taylor passed away on May 26, 2023 at the age of 88. He was known as the “grandfather” of the rubber door business.
In 1982, Bud started M & I Doors, Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Under his leadership, within twelve years, the company grew from a small, custom order rubber door manufacturer, well beyond its mining roots, and into a successful brand in Canada and the US.
When Bud retired in 1994, he sold the business to a successful American door company who later moved the operation from Barrie ON, Canada to the US. Many of the former M & I Doors employees remained in Barrie and in 2003 started TNR Industrial Doors, now known as Hörmann Barrie, part of the Hörmann Group of companies in North America.
The entire team at Hörmann Barrie, several of whom remember Bud personally, pays tribute to his legacy and acknowledge the impact his entrepreneurship has on their continued success today. "Bud was a great man and a friend, mentor and confidant to several of our past and present team members," commented Wayne Carr, former National Sales Manager for TNR.
Bud is remembered by his wife of 66 years, Betty, their children and granddaughter, as well as numerous relatives and a long list of friends. He is remembered as a proud and cherished family man and for his optimistic personality. Bud enjoyed boating, golfing, and gardening while spending many winters in Florida and Arizona.
A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Cancer Care, Barrie ON Canada, in memory of Douglas Bud Taylor.
