Hörmann Flexon LLC Implements 5S Visual Management Program
September 28, 2011
Hörmann Flexon, a manufacturer of high performance industrial doors, recently implemented a 5S visual management program within its Leetsdale, Pennsylvania facility as the next step in striving to become a world-class, lean manufacturing operation.
5S visual management is defined as an improvement process used to create a workplace that supports company-wide integration of workplace organization, standardization, visual control and visual display.
Since implementing the program, the company has experienced a 30 percent improvement in productivity which made it possible to achieve a 50 to 75 percent reduction in lead times, the fastest in their industry at this time.
“Since we started implementing the 5S program in the plant, I’ve found my area to be very organized, and our work load has become easy to manage and complete. It has been extremely exciting to see the improvements and how they’ve enhanced the production and delivery of all our lines,” says Tom Robertson, high speed door assembly technician.
